Say thank you to a #NottinghamStar this Volunteers' Week

Next week it's Volunteers Week 2020! To celebrate and recognise the efforts of Nottingham's volunteers, charities and community/voluntary groups in response to COVID-19, we've teamed up with Nottingham City Council to set-up the #NottinghamStar campaign.

The campaign will shine a spotlight on the kindness and generosity which individuals and groups have shown to vulnerable people during the pandemic – and give those that have been supported the chance to say thanks.

Flexible Funding amid COVID-19

Funding is a challenging issue for all charities and community groups. Many emergency funding sources have been announced in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But, before you leap in, what might you need to consider?

Keiren wins Sports Personality Unsung Hero Award

Congratulations to Nottingham's Keiren Thompson who received the Unsung Hero Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards on Sunday (15 December).



Keiren runs the local community project Helping Kids Achieve in Bulwell, alongside a dedicated team. The 31-year old was inspired to set up the group and make a change in the city after being hospitalised as a teenager following an attack. 



Winter support and shelter for the homeless in Nottingham

Extra support measures for the homeless in cold weather have been implemented in Nottingham, to provide enough shelter for anyone sleeping on the street as the temperatures drop.

Every year, the council leads a multi-agency group, including Framework, Emmanuel House, hostels and local churches, to develop a cold weather plan which aims to prevent and respond to rough sleeping, as well as reducing the risks to the health and well-being of those who sleep on the streets during winter months.
