Support for Groups

At NCVS we support Nottingham’s community and voluntary groups in all sorts of different ways. Whether your group is big or small, established or new, we can help strengthen and develop your work.

We can provide information and guidance concerning:

  • Setting up and running a group
  • Identifying suitable funding opportunities
  • Helping committee members, trustees and directors understand their roles and responsibilities
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Free or low-cost training opportunities for your staff and volunteers
  • Helping to promote your voluntary sector jobs and community events
  • Reviewing your governing documents
  • Registering as a charity or social enterprise
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers
  • Networks for skills-building and other partnership opportunities

This list is not exhaustive and we can advise on most things that go on in the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector.

For some issues, you may find the resources or answers you need on our website. For instance, we have set up a page with resources and support to help your group with the cost of living crisis.

We are in the process of adding further resources and documents to this website which will help guide you through some of the common issues involved in setting up a new group or running an established organisation effectively.

Keep an eye on new developments on our Setting up and running a group page.

How to access support

The support you may be able to access from NCVS will vary depending on a range of factors, for instance: where your group operates; who your primary audience is; and the types of services / activities you already (or hope to) provide.

There will be times when we aren't able to help. If this is the case, we'll always aim to signpost to other sources of support.

If you think NCVS can assist your group / organisation, please complete our Request Support Form:

It helps us if you provide as much detail as you can when contacting us. This enables us to assess who in our team is best placed to assist. We may still have additional questions for you, so please be patient if we request more background information.

We can't guarantee to offer one-to-one or in-depth support. Sometimes, the support you need can be found in existing online resources and we'll direct you to those. Or we might encourage you to sign up to our mailing lists, and/or recommend you join one of the many supportive VCSE networks in our city for peer support and learning.

NCVS has many connections for you and your organisation to benefit from.
