An overview of the journey through the Local Mental Health Teams: from referral through to treatment

Part of our 'Service Spotlight' theme within our Workforce Development Learning Series.

The session was facilitated by Sarah Pitts, Transformation Programme Manager and Natasha Cain, Community Rehab Team Leader from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The webinar gave a basic overview of what services sit under Secondary Adult Mental Health. With a greater focus on the Local Mental Health services (LMHTs), the session provided an overview of the journey through the LMHT from referral through to treatment.

This includes:

  • How to refer in and how referrals are processed
  • The different professionals that make up an LMHT
  • What interventions are offered
  • Focus areas/work around SMD.
     

Presenters:

  • Natasha Cain is an experienced psychiatric nurse and is the Team Leader of the Community Rehabilitation Team, previously worked as the team leader of a Local Mental Health Team and developed a pioneering community service for patients experiencing medically unexplained symptoms. Natasha has worked in several other settings including perinatal, liaison psychiatry and is trained in EMDR.
     
  • Sarah Pitts is a Transformation Programme Manager in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust working alongside Community Mental Health Services. Sarah has worked in the Trust for over 20 years as a Qualified Mental Health Nurse including a background of working in the Local Mental Health Teams as a Team Leader.
     
  • Hayley Harris is the SMD Embedded Practitioner in Notts Healthcare Trust. Hayley has worked in the field of SMD since 2003 when she began her career at Framework Housing Association, working in and managing a number of accommodation and community services as well as undertaking the role of System Change Lead at Opportunity Nottingham.
