Start applying now for training courses beginning in August. Become a qualified cycling instructor.
Hosted by RideWise - exact venue of training will be confirmed with participants
Through the European Social Fund (in partnership with Futures), RideWise has funding for 20 people (who need to be job seekers, over 16 and able to ride a bike) to go through the National Standards course to become a Cycling Instructor.
The course typically takes four days in a classroom and practical setting. Once trainees have gone through the course they'll need to deliver some cycle training, alongside a qualified and experienced cycle instructor - for which RideWise will pay them so they get practical experience and use their new skills. They'll be working as a self employed person and the hourly rate is £15.50.
After they've had some practical experience and have successfully undertaken the online and practical assessments then they become a fully accredited Cycle Instructor (passing the assessments is essential to get the full qualification). At this point they can work for anyone - including RideWise - as a freelance National Standards Cycle Instructor.
As part of this offer, RideWise will provide First Aid training - which is essential for this work - and a DBS check, which will mean they can work with children and in schools.
Working as a Cycle Instructor is a great way to be self employed - and is very rewarding. There's a massive variety of work on offer, from one to one sessions with adult learners through to school group training, fun day activities, refresher training .... and lots more. If trainees don't currently have a bike then RideWise can likely provide one for them.
Free to attend for job seekers (fully funded through ESF)
