Purpose of Role:
To improve the health and wellbeing of lonely and isolated residents in Beechdale, by helping them to become more physically and socially active.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The following are examples of the type of support you could be asked to provide:
• Visiting lonely and isolated residents in their home on a regular basis (once restrictions on social contact and entering homes has been lifted)
• Providing companionship, support and confidence building
• Encouraging them to become more engaged in the outside world and different activities
• Encouraging them to become more physically active – moving more in their own home/garden
• Encouraging and helping them to do their exercises in a safe and appropriate way
• Accompanying them on short walks to build up strength and confidence – this could be along the garden path or along the road
• Encouraging them to take up new activities/join new community groups and, if necessary, accompanying them to the groups and helping them to integrate. This could be by walking or public transport. You will not be required to provide transport.
• Volunteering within the charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the volunteering code of conduct
The visits may be short or long term, depending on the need of the person.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
Ideally, we ask all applicants to commit to providing a minimum of 2 hours volunteering a week at a time to suit you.
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role. This will include a half/one? day One Step at a Time course and a charity induction. You will also be given access to our online training library to complete the online training modules that are mandatory for your role.
