ROLE DESCRIPTION:
🌿 Become a Gardening Volunteer with Macmillan Beyond Diagnosis
Are you looking for a flexible and rewarding way to support people affected by cancer? As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll help bring peace and joy back to a space that matters deeply to someone going through a tough time.
Many of our clients are no longer able to maintain their gardens—spaces that once brought them comfort. With your help, these special places can be restored and provide a little light during a difficult period, whilst our staff team work with the clients to look at long term solutions.
🌼 What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll provide short-term, one-off gardening support tailored to each client’s needs. Depending on the task and garden size, you may work alone or alongside another volunteer/s. Support is generally required during Spring, Summer and early Autumn.
Some tools are usually provided by the client, but occasionally we’ll help source what’s needed. Depending on the tasks required the one off gardening support normally lasts between 1 - 2.5 hours.
Typical tasks include:
• Lawn mowing
• Weeding and pruning
• Tidying borders and pathways
• Hedge trimming
• Jet washing patios and paths
You’ll be part of a trusted team of volunteers we contact when support is needed. The role is truly flexible—help out when you’re available, no pressure if you're not.
🌟 What You’ll Get
We’ll make sure you feel confident and supported in your role. As a Gardening Support Volunteer, you’ll receive:
• A full induction and training
• Ongoing support from our friendly team and peer volunteers
• Invitations to regular volunteer newsletters and events
• Reimbursement of travel expenses (45p per mile or public transport costs)
• Job references, if needed
