ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Nottingham Green Guardians, established in 2021 is the city’s greenspace volunteering programme, which aims to restore and protect nature, and improve the urban environment. This can be anything from coppicing woodland, planting a flower bed, painting benches or a litter pick. By volunteering with Nottingham Green Guardians, you’re not just making parks better for the community, but also creating and improving habitats for wildlife.
A Green Guardian will primarily carry out conservation at nature reserves and local wildlife sites (previously SINCs) in locations around the chosen quarter of Nottingham. The tasks and locations will differ week to week depending on the season and where efforts would be best spent. One week could be eradicating Himalayan balsam at Clifton Woods, the next you could be clearing brambles and paths at Colwick Country Park.
Park improvement days will also take place- tasks may include planting flowers, or shrubs, pruning trees, painting signs or benches, litter picking, and much more. Again this will largely be affected by the season, and situation. During winter, there will be opportunities to carry out tree planting as part of the sessions, which is a favourite of the current volunteers.
Green Guardians volunteer work parties will take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, it will differ depending on which corner of the city you sign up to.
Tree planting occurs on Fridays and Saturdays to allow working people to join in.
