Purpose of Role:
This is a great opportunity to gain and develop your experience in the competitive retail sector, make new friends and help The Mary Magdalen Foundation raise funds to support their work with people recovering from alcohol problems.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
To support our team to prepare, price and display items of bric-a-brac to maximize sales.
Bric-a-brac is one of the busiest areas of the shop attracting lots of interest. The items are really varied and can range from door handles and tea cups and often items of great value, including antiques and vintage collectables. It is important we get pricing right and spend time researching the value.
It’s equally as important that the items are displayed to maximum effect to create an eye catching and striking feature.
Do you have an eye for an heirloom? Can you spot what's priceless and what's not?
As a volunteer bric-a-brac specialist, you'll help to sort, price and display items of bric-a-brac kindly donated by the public to get the best possible prices.

Times are flexible but regular slots are welcomed as this is such an important area of the shop

We can reimburse your reasonable local travel expenses for shifts of over 4 hours and we will be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.
The shop is open 10 - 4 Monday to Friday and 10 - 2 on a Saturday.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
We'll need you to:
- have a bit of knowledge of the value of ornaments, kitchen equipment, plates, glasses, vases etc.
- be prepared to research value to achieve the best selling price
- follow display and merchandising guidelines and have a good eye for display
- be friendly and approachable
- have common sense
- be able to use your own initiative
- work as part of a team.
Previous experience would be beneficial but is not essential as training will be provided. You need to have an interest in bric-a-brac and a willingness to research prices
