OFFERED BY:
Mary Magdalen Foundation Charity Shop (CLOSED)
Location(s): Basford
Address where volunteering takes place: 588 Radford Road Basford Nottingham NG7 7EX
How many places are on offer? 2 per half day
Purpose of Role:
Wouldn't it feel good to be the volunteer who spots a first-edition James Bond book among donations in our shop?

Join us and support the shop team to maintain the book department to a high standard, up to date, displayed well so that we attract customers. You will be instrumental in ensuring we achieve the best-selling price by researching and recognising items of value.

Our books and music are in the same area of the shop, so you could also be involved in making the most of our CD and record donations.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Do you love reading? Maybe you prefer turning paper pages to staring at a flat screen? We do too, and we’re looking for volunteers who know their Roald Dahl from their Jane Austen to help us maximize sales which fund our healthcare services. We get so many wonderful donations of books. They’re fiction, fact; textbook and picture books and we need volunteers to help us get them out on the shop floor or sold in another way.

As a Bookworm, you would be sorting, pricing and displaying books for the best possible profit. You’d be making sure that the department is refreshed each week and part of your role could be to use online selling platforms to sell the ones which might be worth a little bit more than the shop floor can achieve. Don’t worry, it’s easy to do this, and you’d receive all the training you need but if you’d rather stick to the paper stuff, that’s fine too.

If you’d like to know more, pop into the shop or get in touch to arrange a taster session where you can try out the role and meet the team or apply online.

You can volunteer for a few hours every week - any day you like.

You'll get:

Fun, friendship and to be part of a team

Induction

Staff discount on donated goods excluding furniture

We can reimburse your reasonable local travel expenses for shifts of over 4 hours and we will be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.

This is a great opportunity to gain and develop your experience in the competitive retail sector, make new friends and help The Mary Magdalen Foundation raise funds to support their work with people recovering from alcohol problems.

The shop is open 10 - 4 Monday to Friday and 10 - 2 on a Saturday.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
We'll need you to:

- know a little bit about different types of books and authors

- be prepared to research to ensure we do not undersell the books donated

- be friendly and approachable

- have common sense

- use your own initiative

- work as part of a team

Previous retail experience would be great but it’s not essential as we’ll give you all the training you need.
