Purpose of Role:
During each session the volunteer will primarily provide a meet and greet service and they will also be involved in the booking in process. This process is one of the most important aspects of the role.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Volunteers are required to assist and support the Co-ordinator/Deputy Co-ordinator in a variety of tasks connected with the day to day running of the Visitor Centre.
What you will be doing
To welcome all visitors to the Centre in a warm and friendly manner. Visitors need to be treated with respect and courtesy at all times. Ultimately, we strive to provide a constant and consistent service to all visitors offering assistance if difficulties arise.
During each session the volunteer will primarily provide a meet and greet service and they will also be involved in the booking in process. This process is one of the most important aspects of the role and it is essential that it is carried out pleasantly and correctly.
As well as meeting / greeting visitors, you may be asked to check ID, note down registrations and support the coordinator. There may be some admin tasks here such as putting up posters and finding our information for the visitors.
No volunteer at HMP Whatton will come in to contact with a prisoner. Every effort will be made not to leave volunteers alone during the sessions that are allocated to them and at no point will they be, knowingly, placed in a difficult or dangerous situation.
We are looking for volunteers to help out for up to 3 hours, between 12:30 to 15:00 on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Volunteers need to be aged 18+, but this opportunity is not suitable for students.

Having excellent people skills is more important than any formal education for this role.
A clean DBS check is required and to note that security clearance is quite onerous and can take 4-6 weeks. This is due to HMP Prison services security checks taking time to complete.
Having own transport is preferred as the public transport links to HMP Whatton are limited.
