Purpose of Role:
Make a difference in a refugee's life, one English word at a time!
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We offer curriculum based ESOL courses on different levels (predominantly pre-entry/basic level), conversation groups, and other forms of teaching/practising English to adult refugees and asylum seekers of all ages and abilities.

We are currently looking for volunteers with demonstrated experience of teaching (online or classroom based) and/or qualification in teaching English with the following responsibilities:
*Teaching adult ESOL classes (mainly pre-entry/elementary level)
*Facilitating English conversation groups
*Teaching English literacy to people from other language system backgrounds
*Building/contributing to ESOL teaching resource bank
*Keeping registers of attending students
*Participating in regular meetings
*Conducting English level assessments for new learners
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for volunteers with these skills and qualities:

ESOL teaching qualifications and/or experience
Ability to plan and design learning materials is desirable

Ability to teach at an appropriate level according to needs
Excellent written and spoken English
Understanding and following clear boundaries
Patient, empathetic
Organised, reliable and committed

An understanding of the needs and hopes of asylum seekers and refugees and an appreciation of the challenges they continue to face
Some experience of volunteering or working with refugees and/or asylum seekers is desirable

Due to limited availability of our classroom, we are looking for volunteers who are available to run weekly classes on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons (between 1pm and 5pm), or literacy classes on Friday afternoons.
