Purpose of Role:
Gettaway Club is a relaxed, fun group for adults with learning disabilities and autism to socialise and meet new people.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Hours: We are looking for people to support us run our Gettaway groups on a Tuesday and/ or Wednesday evening each week from 6.30 – 9pm.
Main purpose of job:
Nottingham Mencap Gettaway Club is a social club that enables adults with learning difficulties/ disabilities and autism to socialise with their peers on a regular basis, in a safe and friendly environment. The Club runs from 7 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from Harpenden House, Edwards Lane, Nottingham.
The evening also offers the opportunity for members to take part in activities such as Karaoke, general knowledge quizzes, and Arts and Crafts. The Gettaway club also organises day trips, typically at weekends, for members to places like the Black Country Museum or Drayton Manor Park.
Expenses: Travel costs are reimbursed.
Location:
Based at Harpenden House. Please note that from September we will be relocating to Clarence Street in Nottingham.
Main tasks of role:
• Arrive from 6.30 pm, to help with setting up.
• Assist with the setting up of the main hall activity (karaoke, Quiz, game, etc.)
• Place games and activities on the games table (sorting out game pieces, cards, Jenga from games cupboard)
• Set the arts room up (sorting paints, pencils, pens, colouring paper)
• Set out refreshments and tuck shop (sweets, crisps, making tea and coffee)
• Clean tables and wash up mugs as necessary
• Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the environment during the session
• Keep an eye on all the areas where activities are happening and maintain safeguarding
We welcome volunteers from all sections of the community. No experience of learning disabilities or autism needed. However, a non-judgmental, person-centred approach, using initiative to support the team and enjoying having a chat are all welcomed.
Please note that an enhanced DBS check will need to be completed, at no cost to you. We also work in a non-judgemental way, so something on a DBS does not automatically mean that you are not able to volunteer with us. The most important thing is honesty so please do speak with us if you have any questions.
