How many places are on offer? Numerous
Purpose of Role:
My Sight Nottinghamshire (NRSB) is looking for people who want to make a difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people in Nottingham. From making trips out to the shops to any activities the service user wants.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Local sight loss charity, My Sight Nottinghamshire has teamed up with Guide Dogs to launch the My Guide scheme, which is looking for volunteer sighted guides in your area.

As a 'My Guide' volunteer you'll be given full training and support to help you become a confident, sighted guide.

When you're ready we'll team you up with a visually-impaired person in your area and together you'll begin the first steps of an amazing and hugely rewarding journey, leading to greater independence and a better quality of life back in the community for them and helping you develop new skills and make new friends.

As a My Guide volunteer you'll spend a few hours a week, guiding your visually impaired partner on trips out to local shops, cafes, sports events or other community activities that they would like to get involved in.

You'll help people take their first tentative steps on the road to greater independence, enabling them to establish lasting relationships with people in their local community who will help them get out more.

At this time we are reintroducing the face to face service, following al government guidelines to best support our service users, whilst keeping both service users and volunteers safe. From the end of May (subject to change if the Covid-19 infection rate increases) you'll be able to support service users face to face, with guiding in the community.

We're also really interested in hearing from volunteers throughout the county, particularly from Eastwood and Kimberly areas.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A My Guide volunteer will be fully trained in sighted guiding but will need to be a patient, caring and understanding individual.

Driving is an advantage but not essential
