Purpose of Role:
Do you enjoy meaningful conversations and meeting new people? We're looking for friendly, open-minded volunteers to help lead and participate in our weekly conversation groups! Whether you're a natural talker or a great listener, your presence can make a big difference.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Learning English is an important part of integrating into Nottingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a team of volunteers who support and encourage people from different cultures to improve their spoken English skills through stimulating and varied conversation in relaxed groups. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one of the following sessions weekly. We currently need four volunteers for Hyson Green Library and four for Central Library with training and induction planned for July for a September start.

Sessions are as follows: Hyson Green Library, Fridays, 10.30 am to 12 pm, Nottingham Central Library, Thursdays, 2 pm to 3.30 pm

What you will be doing
-- Support weekly conversation sessions for mixed-ability English learners face-to-face.
-- Ensure sessions are fun, interesting, and of value by using a wide range of appropriate discussion topics and providing materials such as newspapers
-- Support individuals to take an active part in group conversations through encouragement and motivation
-- Complete and submit basic weekly attendance records to help monitor and develop the service

-- Able to deal diplomatically and constructively with differences of opinion
