Purpose of Role:
Be a friend with a friendly smile, go for a walk, a coffee and a chat make a difference to someone's life with your company. Can you be that friend?
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to visit people over the age of 18 with a range of health conditions and disabilities, their families and carers on a regular basis for up to three hours per week, to offer social and emotional support.

As a volunteer you will take on a number of simple yet crucial tasks, usually at the home of the person you will help, that will make a huge difference. You will provide one-to-one companionship and support, offer a listening ear and spend time engaging in everyday conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting.

The activities you carry out depend on the preferences and needs of the person you are supporting, so you may spend time accompanying the person to appointments, social groups or trips out and about! This role is wide-ranging and the support you offer will vary according to the needs of those using the service, though it's important to note that the volunteer does not provide any personal care.

Essential skills
Committed and reliable, with the ability to keep appointments.
Patience and empathy
A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and a respect for other people's privacy.
Flexible and able to operate within the boundaries of the role
A friendly and sensitive approach
Excellent listening skills and an ability to build a rapport with others
Respect for individuals regardless of their race, age, gender, culture, religion, disability and sexual orientation.
