Purpose of Role:
Ensure that Bulwell Forest Garden is carrying out its Aims and Objectives, as set out in it's governing documents.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Committee Members have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it's doing what it was set up to do. They may be known by other titles, such as:
Directors
Board members
Governors
Trustees

Committee Members come from all walks of life and are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run. Being a Committee Member means making decisions that will impact on people's lives, and making a difference to your local community.

Committee Members use their skills and experience to support the charity, helping them achieve their aims. Committee Members also often learn new skills during their time on the board.

You must not act as a Committee Member if you are disqualified under the Charities Act, including if you:
Have an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception (such as fraud)
Are bankrupt or have entered into a formal arrangement (eg an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA)) with a creditor
Have been removed as a company director or charity trustee because of wrongdoing
All Committee Members will be expected to carry out a DBS check. For Committee Members who act as a Key Holder to the Garden or who will deal directly with finances, an enhanced DBS check will be required.

Main duties of a Committee Member

Ensure that Bulwell Forest Garden is carrying out its Aims and Objectives, as set out in it's governing documents.
Act with integrity, and avoid any personal conflicts of interest or misuse of Bulwell Forest Garden funds.
Attend monthly Committee Meetings, and the Annual General Meeting.
Ensure Bulwell Forest Garden is accountable, by working with your co-committee members to submit accounts and reports to Companies House and Charity Commission.
