Purpose of Role:
Join a fun and friendly group to help with art sessions led by an artist in residence. You don’t need to be an artist just have an interest in people helping us to make our sessions fun and engaging.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Become an Art Volunteer for Artspeak and work with us using the arts as a tool for health, wellbeing and connecting lonely people. You can help make a difference to people in a local community.
ArtSpeak run a programme of arts opportunities from it’s base at Prospect Street, a newly built centre for older people.
We have volunteering opportunities once a week with an artist in residence who runs a programme of activities with our older people from 9 – 12.30 pm one day a week August this is on a Monday, September Tuesdays and October Wednesdays etc until December.
The artist sets up a programme of arts and crafts and we need help to deliver this to our older people. It may be helping to use scissors, older people can struggle due to arthritic joints or poor eyesight. It may be helping set up a water colour palate as they can be difficult to work when dry or you may work alongside someone to support and chat to them as the session goes on. No experience necessary just a willingness to help and learn. If you have artistic skills we will try to find ways to use them as there is always room for creative input and ideas. We like to create a fun and vibrant environment for people to learn, engage and communicate with each other. This has been lacking during COVID – 19 due to social distancing in lockdown and it’s even more important now to come along and help older out of the fear of isolation.

Training opportunities will be available to volunteers able to commit to working with us for at least 6 months.
