Purpose of Role:
Befrienders are matched up with the person with dementia and visit them at home to provide friendship and support. People often share interests as volunteers do activities with the person they visit.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Side by Side volunteers will provide agreed support to people with dementia. This could be either by visiting them in their home, enabling them to stay active, taking part in appropriate social and recreational activities in their community or simply just having a telephone conversation, whichever they require.
Your involvement aims to help people to feel less isolated enabling the person to focus on their strengths to remain active and confident.
What will you be doing?
- Participating in activities you share an interest in with a person with dementia to help them to keep doing the things they love – or pick up new ones!
- To give advice to people living with dementia and signpost them to services to enable them to live well
- Assisting and supporting people living with dementia
- Communicating regularly with the coordinator and/or lead volunteers

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A passion for supporting, enabling and empowering those living with dementia
- A good verbal communicator with great listening skills, especially face to face
- Can provide a committed, flexible approach and who is willing to learn
