Purpose of Role:
Help set the record straight about diabetes by becoming an events volunteer. We need help at events all over the country, so if you have some time to spare, this could be the role for you.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
As an events volunteer, you will be working with Diabetes UK staff, talking to members of the public and handing out information about diabetes.
The events range from stands in shopping centres and high streets, to big events such as county shows. You don't need any previous knowledge or experience about diabetes or Diabetes UK. We give you all the information and support that you need.
Why we want you
Events volunteers help raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK at events around the country. The location of events range from market squares and high streets to big events such as county shows. Volunteers can also help out at conferences, sporting events and support days, providing a helping hand to reach people with diabetes in their local area.
What you will be doing
Talking to members of the public in a friendly and enthusiastic manner to raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK
Offer appropriate Diabetes UK publications/materials
Answer general queries and and signpost people to their GP if they are worried or would like further information
Encourage to visit our website for further information about how Diabetes UK can support them
The skills you need
Confident speaking to members of the public
Good communication and listening skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Enthusiastic and outgoing
An interest in community-based health promotion
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Commitment to support the work of Diabetes UK and represent Diabetes UK in a positive way
A willingness to attend all briefings and trainings related to your role
