Purpose of Role:
Help your local community garden grow food sustainably at our friendly monthly work parties.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The main tasks are general gardening duties to maintain the community gardens, including weeding, grass cutting, composting, pruning and hedge cutting. There are two community gardens in Sherwood where volunteers are needed, one behind the community centre on Mansfield Road, the other at Edingley Sq. The gardens have a mixture of individual plots and shared areas and help is needed to look after the communal space. This is important to keep the gardens running smoothly so that we can continue to grow food locally and sustainable. Volunteers are invited to regular monthly work parties with at least one experienced gardener or plot holders. A share in produce from communal areas is offered and first choice of vacant plots if available
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
No previous experience required but support for organic growing and environmental protection are important. We welcome volunteers who are flexible, friendly understanding and tolerant. Identifying weeds, composting, fruit tree pruning , raising seeds, using tools for example, can all be learnt in the role
