How many places are on offer?
Purpose of Role:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to come alongside survivors of modern slavery who have transitioned out of crisis and are moving toward rebuilding their lives and settling into Nottingham.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
All members of the team are required to support the successful running of the drop-in through a variety of responsibilities. However, some roles will be specifically allocated to volunteers based on skills and experience:
• Set up and pack down sessions
• Provide a friendly welcome to clients
• Get to know clients through a mix of social and structured sessions
• Actively participate in debriefing sessions with the team each week
• Preparation of refreshments
• Help clients to get to know the local area and services available
• Facilitate and/or organise activities and workshops (budgeting, confidence building etc)
• Through the help desk, support clients to access community advice, services or organisations by telephone and online
• Provide administrative support such as client travel reimbursement and recording attendance
• Provide childcare (female drop-in only) for clients’ pre-school children including recording attendance and organising the session (eg craft activity)

A mixture of face-to-face and online training prior to working with clients (approx 10 hours):
• Volunteer Induction and specialised programme training
• Safeguarding, Data Protection and Equality & Diversity e-learning courses
• IT and Data Induction e-learning course (Helpdesk volunteers)
Ongoing debrief support sessions from the Local Programme Coordinator.
Professional development and refresher training.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills you need
• A passion for transforming the lives of people who have been affected by modern slavery
• Sensitive interpersonal and social skills
• Ability to keep confidences
• Reliability and good time keeping
• Commitment to safeguarding and a willingness to raise concerns where necessary
• Experience of working in a team
• An interest in The Salvation Army’s modern slavery work and sympathy with the general aims and values of The Salvation Army
• Helpdesk specific: Basic computer skills and the ability to facilitate/support clients in sending emails or making telephone calls related to their needs
• Additional skills that may be beneficial to clients are also welcomed


To fulfil this role
All roles within the CONNECT programme are subject to:
• mandatory checks including DBS
• two satisfactory references
• completion of all required training
• an informal interview and introductory period
