This session was delivered as a webinar on Teams on Tuesday 20 May 2025

Part of our Understanding Neurodivergence and Multiple Disadvantage learning series.

Our seventh session in this series was led by Nada Kankova, Social Worker from Street Outreach Team within Framework, and focused on barriers that neurodivergent people face when homeless.

The webinar talked about rough sleeping, attending council housing services, using Temporary accommodation in hotels and maintaining hostel accommodation. All of these can present specific challenges for neurodivergent individuals.

The session also provided some advice around what steps workers and services can take to help individuals.

Presenters:

  • Nada Kankova is a Social Worker based in Street Outreach Team working with people experiencing homelessness and multiple and complex disadvantage. While it can be difficult for people rough sleeping to seek diagnosis of neurodivergence many people that she has supported had traits common in neurodivergent individuals. It is her role to support people in finding accommodation, coordinate support from the council and voluntary agencies and most importantly advocate for individuals. So, she can see first hand the barriers individuals face in when trying to secure and maintain accommodation.
