NIHR Public Health Grassroots Awards

The deadline for applications is Thursday 19 June 2025

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Specialist Centre for Public Health has launched a £5,000 personal funding opportunity to help individuals working in public health develop research skills. It’s designed for people with little or no prior research experience, especially those in VCSE organisations, non-NHS providers, and local authorities in England.

The award supports short-term, part-time learning and is flexible around your existing commitments. It can also help with accessibility costs (e.g. childcare, BSL). The aim is to increase inclusive participation in public health research and reduce health inequalities.

Key priorities of the award:

  1. Encouraging research engagement
  2. Inclusive research engagement
  3. Flexibility

The team is especially keen to see strong VCSE representation, so please share widely with local partners. If you’d like to learn more about the Centre’s work with the VCSE sector or future funding opportunities, do get in touch.
