New Ministry of Justice funding boosts partnership support for people facing severe and multiple disadvantage

Changing Futures Nottingham has announced a new funding partnership with the Ministry of Justice that will strengthen ongoing collaborative work with the probation service in Nottingham. The 18-month investment will support efforts to reduce reoffending, improve rehabilitation, and enhance resettlement pathways for individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage.

As part of this initiative, an embedded practitioner role within the probation service (delivered through Changing Futures Nottingham) will continue. This role, currently held by Matt, plays a key part in helping people break the cycle of reoffending. The funding also enables the addition of a new specialist navigator to the team, who is already making a difference by offering direct support to individuals.

This development supports wider system-change ambitions and has a direct impact on people’s lives.

A spokesperson from the Nottingham Probation Delivery Unit described the service as having 'demonstrated effective outcomes for complex people on probation', noting that 'practitioners, managers and partners were universally positive about the benefits'.

With the new funding, the probation-focused team will also continue providing training and support to probation staff, enhancing service delivery across the board.

Changing Futures Programme Director Bobby highlighted the value of this work, stating:

This service brings meaningful change by both improving life chances for people and alleviating some of the pressures this cycle creates in the criminal justice system.

We’re pleased to share this latest update from Changing Futures Nottingham, which helps us and our partners continue supporting people facing severe and multiple disadvantage in our city.

NCVS is proud to be a delivery partner in the Changing Futures Nottingham programme. Through our coordination of the Practice Development Unit (PDU), we support the sharing of learning and good practice around the experiences of those facing severe and multiple disadvantage. This kind of partnership working is essential in driving real change - both at the system level and in the everyday lives of individuals.
