Name change for The Prince's Trust

Last year, The Prince's Trust announced our intention to change its name to The King’s Trust. Since then, they have been working towards this change and are pleased to share with you that, on Tuesday 15 October 2024, they officially started operating as The King’s Trust. They have also introduced our new logo to accompany the new name.

They are currently transitioning to the new branding, so some updates to your contact information may be needed. Their website and social media channels have been switched to the new name, and any active links should be redirected correctly. If you email the team regularly, their emails will change to [firstname.surname]@kingstrust.org.uk, but the Prince’s Trust email addresses will continue to work for a three-month period as they transition. The live chat and phone number remain the same.

Gambling with Lives launches new training sessions

Gambling With Lives was set up in 2018 by families bereaved by gambling-related suicide. They support bereaved families, raise awareness of the devastating effects of gambling disorders, and campaign for change. One of its projects, Chapter One, was initially piloted in Manchester but is now available across the country, including Nottingham. As part of this new project, there is a new training programme to accompany it. See the Training from other providers' section to register for this programme.

Cash4Clubs

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 12 November 2024 (may close earlier if demand is high)

The 2024 programme is exclusively focused on supporting adult clubs, with the funding being offered to groups that deliver activities to over 18s only, with an emphasis on 18 to 25 year olds. The funding will be unrestricted but with an outcome of increasing participation, meaning clubs are able to decide how best to use the grant to engage more adults from their local communities. Due to the nature of the funder, you cannot apply if your organisation or club runs junior activities.

Applications are welcomed from not-for-profit organisations, including charities, community groups, and traditional sports clubs. To be eligible for funding, applicants must be either registered charities or clubs with a structured governance and constitution. Applicants must also demonstrate that they are using sport for a wider social purpose with a goal to increase participation of adults from under-represented groups. They are particularly interested in submissions from groups working in areas of high deprivation.

Help the Homeless

The deadline for applications is Sunday 15 December 2024, 5pm

UK-registered charities that support the homeless can apply for up to £5,000 in funding from Help the Homeless.

Funding will only be provided for 'capital' projects not core or running costs. All applications must relate to projects that assist individuals in their return to mainstream society, rather than simply offering shelter or other forms of support.

In order to be eligible for this funding, your organisation must be registered as a UK charity with the Charity Commission and have an annual turnover of under £500,000.

GreenSpace (green social prescribing)
GreenSpace green social prescribing banner image
GreenSpace, the green social prescribing programme for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

Green social prescribing is a way of connecting people to nature-based activities and green groups, projects and schemes in their local community for support with health and wellbeing. Often this will be through a referral from a Link Worker based at a GP practice or another primary care professional.

Our scheme in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, called GreenSpace, was one of seven government Green Social Prescribing Test and Learn sites.

While the National Test and Learn may have ended, NCVS continues to embed green social prescribing into health systems to make nature-based/outdoor activities an intervention of choice to support people to improve and maintain their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Shape community specific gambling harm resources

In autumn 2023, the Nottingham Public Health team launched a city-wide campaign to raise awareness about gambling harm and the support services available. This campaign formed part of the delivery plan for the Nottingham Gambling Related Harm Strategy 2023-2028.

Now, they want to expand on the success of this campaign by working with local communities to create materials about gambling harm that are culturally and language-relevant. They plan to hold informal workshops with people in Nottingham to help shape their messages and resources specifically for Arabic speakers. You don’t need personal experience with gambling harm to participate.

In these workshops, they want to learn about:

What gambling and gambling harm look like in Arabic-speaking communities.
How useful you find the current gambling harm materials from Nottingham.
The best ways to communicate messages about gambling harm to Arabic speakers.
If you or your community group is interested in getting involved, please contact Bryany Cornish at bryany.cornish@nottinghamcity.gov.uk for more details.

Consultations and Surveys
Help shape the future of health and social care research in the East Midlands

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 6 November 2024

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands is seeking your valuable opinions to help define the region's future health and social care priorities.

As they work towards securing additional funding beyond 2026, they want to ensure that their research is aligned with the needs and concerns of those who live in the East Midlands. To achieve this, they have launched a short survey to gather public opinion on which health and social care issues should be prioritised in the years ahead.

Your voice matters. By completing this questionnaire, you will help shape the focus of future research projects that could directly impact the wellbeing of communities across the East Midlands. The survey will take no more than 10 minutes of your time, and all responses will be anonymised.

For more information, please contact the team by email at arc-em@le.ac.uk or by phone at 07775 406501.
