The VCSE Collaborative Framework

In 2019, the One Nottingham VCS Strategy Group designed a manifesto, although initially delayed by COVID-19. There's now a push to renew the VCS Strategy Group and update the manifesto as a 'Framework for Partnership and Collaboration'. This revised document aims to guide the VCSE sector in influencing commissioning processes, emphasising communication and consultation. The framework is a concise, one-page document to facilitate discussions on collaboration and investment in the VCSE sector.

If you would like to know more about the Framework or have ideas about how to best implement it, please contact ncvs@nottinghamcvs.co.uk with Collaborative Framework in the subject line.

Volunteering News
Dave Thomas, Volunteering Development Officer at NCVS

Dave Thomas, Volunteering Development Officer at NCVS, continues his series of articles in support of Leaders of Volunteers.

The benefits of involving Lead Volunteers

Creating a supportive and effective environment is crucial for the success of any volunteer programme. However, many leaders of volunteers find it difficult to provide as much support as they would like. My own experience has shown that one of the most effective ways to achieve this is by involving Lead Volunteers—experienced volunteers who take on additional responsibilities to offer first-line support to a small group of their peers. This approach benefits both the organisation and the volunteers who take on the role of Lead Volunteer.

Click the 'Read more' button to hear about all the benefits to your organisation and the volunteer themselves, plus download your free 'Lead Volunteer role description' template.

Collective Intelligence Debate on Volunteering and Social Action

Our friends and partners at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) would like to invite you to participate in an online Collective Intelligence Debate on how the UK government can support partnerships and engagement that support volunteering. This is taking place until Monday 23 September 2024.

The project aims to explore how various parts of the volunteering system—government, public, private, and voluntary sectors—collaborate and how these relationships can be better supported. Engage as much or as little as you like - around one hour total over the week - where you'll vote on short statements and share your ideas anonymously.

If you have anything at all to do with supporting volunteering, you are invited to get involved in the discussion: whether you’re a volunteer-involver, community group, activist, trustee, funder, social enterprise, infrastructure organisation, researcher, local authority, government, volunteer centre, influencer, student, charity leader, event organiser, helper, CVS, youth leader or more!

GreenSpace (green social prescribing)
GreenSpace green social prescribing banner image
GreenSpace, the green social prescribing programme for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

Green social prescribing is a way of connecting people to nature-based activities and green groups, projects and schemes in their local community for support with health and wellbeing. Often this will be through a referral from a Link Worker based at a GP practice or another primary care professional.

Our scheme in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, called GreenSpace, was one of seven government Green Social Prescribing Test and Learn sites.

While the National Test and Learn may have ended, NCVS continues to embed green social prescribing into health systems to make nature-based/outdoor activities an intervention of choice to support people to improve and maintain their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Making Every Contact Count: Having healthy conversations in your role

The Nottingham City Public Health team is working with colleagues at Nottinghamshire County Council and health and social care partners to evolve and expand the use of Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training and principles across council departments and the wider health and social care system. The programme will aim to provide staff and organisations with the training, information, environment, and support they need to have 'healthy' (MECC) conversations, complementing and expanding the reach and impact of current and future prevention initiatives.

This survey should take around five to ten minutes to complete. Your insights and experiences would be extremely valuable in helping the Public Health team understand what training staff have previously received and what helps or hinders your ability to have healthy conversations with the people you speak to.
