The Lenton Centre
Location(s): Lenton and Wollaton East
Address where volunteering takes place: Willoughby Street Lenton Nottingham NG7 1RQ
How many places are on offer?: A couple
Purpose of Role:
We are looking for people to use their skills to support the running of a community asset. The Lenton Centre is a charitable social enterprise, steeped in colourful history from being a slipper baths to being used as a film set. There are lots of layers to The Lenton Centre; a swimming pool and gym for the public and schools, a community centre with community activities and office space for local businesses.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Lenton Centre is supported through grants and donations, in addition to the income generated through its social enterprise activities. We have ambitious plans to ensure its sustainability for long into the future and significant changes are taking place to ensure greater efficiencies and a wider range of income opportunities are available.

The centre is governed by a Board of Trustees, who direct the Chief Executive Officer to lead a team of experienced staff. The Board is seeking additional expertise in HR and business and charity law to provide guidance to the Board and CEO and we are therefore looking for two additional Trustees with either or both of these skills. As a trustee, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, developing its aims and goals in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines and in keeping with its charitable objectives. In your role, as a trustee, you will also help to protect the wealth and assets of the organisation. It is therefore preferable that the incoming Trustees have experience working at Board level within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
The Board meet ten times a year and there is an expectation that Trustees attend at least 80% of the meetings. Additionally, you will be required to provide ad-hoc support and keep up to date with any relevant activity at the centre. All Trustees are expected to sign up to the Nolan Principles as part of good governance. In return for your time and expertise, we offer gym and swim membership and occasional, relevant training opportunities.
