Your Volunteers are already Champions

In Volunteers' Week 2022, we recognise that many of your volunteers are already engaged in supporting people to address their health and wellbeing and we would like to offer support to enable them to do more.

We would like to invite your volunteers to join a new network of people who will support our local communities to achieve healthier lifestyles. Community Champions help local people that you work with by signposting them to advice and support on health and wellbeing issues. They will still volunteer for your organisation but will have the chance to further develop their skills through a programme of training and support, becoming part of the wider Community Champions movement.

An example of the training and support available:

  • Having Difficult Conversations training sessions
  • Training on health topics (covid vaccine, alternatives to GP services, mental health pathways for example) delivered by local health professionals
  • MH Awareness potentially leading to MH First Aid
  • Cultural Competence in delivering health and wellbeing messages
  • A range of webinars and online training through the NHS Futures Platform

This offers an opportunity for your volunteers to learn more about, and help to develop, our local health and care system. It will increase their skills as a communicator and lead to becoming advocates for the best health and wellbeing outcomes for our city’s residents, including the people you already support.

If you are a community organisation hosting volunteers and would like them to have the chance to develop new skills and opportunities, please get in touch. Email communitychampions@nottinghamcvs.co.uk or call 0115 934 8400. There will also be support available to your organisation to assist in covering volunteer expenses related to this activity.
