Over the past few weeks, we have been encouraged by a continued influx in volunteering requests from people in Nottingham looking to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic. We are also receiving regular requests for volunteers from organisations working on the frontline to support some of the city's most vulnerable.
We encourage more people in Nottingham to get involved in supporting their communities by volunteering. However, we would advise you to volunteer with organisations that are already up and running and have measures in place to keep you safe and informed.
To make it easier for people to express their interest in volunteering, we have set up the following processes. Please do share this information with your contacts/networks.
- You can register your interest in volunteering directly through our website, by visiting our Want to Volunteer web page.
- You can also register your interest through our general Coronavirus Volunteering Opportunity
- For anyone not able to register online, calls can be taken by our Office Administrator Lucy Fisher on 0115 934 8400
All those who register with us will receive a confirmation email detailing the roles available and a list of organisations who are currently looking for volunteers.
From our on-going conversations with local Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations we have identified four key volunteering roles which are required at this time, these are;
- Telephone befriending
- Dog walking
- Delivery driver
- Delivery cyclist
Does your organisation need volunteers?
We will continue to review the roles listed above and add to them, where necessary. If your organisation would like any other volunteering role to be considered, please contact our Volunteering Development Officer Dave Thomas, email firstname.lastname@example.org
We would also like to hear from local groups who are in need of volunteers at this time, so we can add your name to our running list, please email email@example.com
Nottingham City Council launches the Golden Number
Another way that volunteers are being directed to us is through Nottingham City Council's new Golden Number.
Launched last week, anyone who calls the number to express their interest in volunteering, will be advised to visit our website to register their interest.
The main purpose of the number, is to connect people who are self-isolating and have no family, friends or neighbours to support them with accessing important supplies such as medicine, food and other household items. Call 0115 915 5555, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm or visit the council's website.
