The Mojatu Foundation is urgently appealing for funds to help transport clothing pallets to refugees in Lesvos, Greece, at the end of November.
The Nottingham-based charity is working alongside The Unheard Refugees to support refugees in the area and document their experiences.
Refugees and asylum seekers in Lesvos have recently been moved to a new camp near the sea, so they are more exposed to bad weather and cold nights.
Thanks to public donations, the charity which has been running a clothing appeal throughout November, estimates that it currently has around three pallets worth of clothing to send on, however, more money is needed to cover the transportation costs.
Donate to cover transport costs
According to the charity, each pallet costs around £150 (€167) to travel from Leeds to Lesvos. So far, the charity has received around £300 which is an incredible amount, but more is needed in order to afford to send all the donated clothes. You can donate here.
Appeal for donations of bags
The charity is looking for donations of backpacks or bags to transport the donated clothes in, which can then be resued by asylum seekers and refugees to keep their belongings safe and secure. Please get in touch if you have any bags to donate.
Get in touch
Please Facebook message the charity or contact them on 07867 309 327 if you have any bags to donate. Collections/drop-offs will be made COVID-safe, following Government guidelines.
The project will continue in 2021, with the charity aiming to send another parcel out in January.
