We are pleased to announce a new Community of Practice (CoP) exploring the role of employability and skills when working with people experiencing Severe and Multiple Disadvantage (SMD).

The Employability with SMD CoP provides a forum for professionals and volunteers with a passion for, and commitment to, empowering people who experience SMD through employment and skills led recovery and resettlement.

By joining this CoP, you will have the opportunity to come together with local practitioners and volunteers with lived experience in a vibrant but informal space to work through issues with peer support and gain new ideas. In this setting you will be supported to reflect on your own role and working practice and understand how you may apply new principles and good practice to your work and within your organisation.

This CoP is facilitated by staff from local partner Framework, who lead and deliver Opportunity and Change (Building Opportunities) and Opportunity Nottingham. The sessions will be designed to respond to issues raised and requests made by you during the CoP sessions and may include topics such as:

  • The principles of Individualised Placement Support (IPS)
  • Strength-based approaches to employability
  • Practical, financial barriers and disincentives
  • Employer perspectives and employer engagement
  • What happens next: in work support

Audience: This CoP is aimed at any professionals and volunteers who see the benefits of employability and would like to do more in their roles. It is most appropriate for those in frontline service provision across sectors, including housing, recovery, mental health, primary care, domestic abuse, and SMD services, among others.

CoP meetings will take place on a quarterly basis, Tuesday mornings between 10am to 12 noon. The following meetings are scheduled for 2022: 17 May, 16 August and 15 November.

To make the most out of joining this CoP, we encourage participants to attend all sessions or nominate a colleague to attend on their behalf. As part of the shared learning experience of the CoP, you will be offered opportunities to test the learning in practice in between meetings and bring back ideas and challenges for discussion with the group.

Email enquiries@pdunottingham.org to find out more. Or follow the register now button at the top to register for a place in the group! This registration form will sign you up to attend the CoP on an ongoing basis.
