A two-hour online course for Leaders of Volunteers to start to develop an understanding of some of the legal requirements that relate to your volunteering programme. Cost: £20 per participant

The course is suitable for staff and volunteers working with teams of volunteers and anyone with an interest in volunteering. It will be helpful for those who are new to working with volunteers or those with some experience who are looking to improve their understanding.

This is a complex topic, and we will discover that often the law has less to say about volunteers and volunteering than might be expected. Despite this, we will introduce you to a lot of topics that would benefit from further reading.

The session will include some important legal cases that relate to volunteering.

We will cover:

  • What is a volunteer?
  • Health & safety and risk
  • Insurance
  • Data Protection
  • Copyright
  • Money and benefits
  • Safeguarding
  • DBS Disclosures
  • Who is allowed to volunteer?
  • Volunteers and employees
  • Contracts
  • Case studies & employment tribunals
  • Don't panic!

The session takes place over Zoom, so please make sure you have access to this software before registering for a place.
