Join us this Volunteers’ Week (June 2021), for a free online workshop to discuss the topic of loneliness, explore how people in Nottingham have been affected during the pandemic and how volunteering has played an important role in helping to tackle this issue.

One of the feelings many of us have experienced during the pandemic is loneliness. Isolation and loneliness can affect anyone at any age but through our combined efforts to stay safe and save lives, this feeling has been exacerbated.

This one-off partnership session is being delivered by the NCVS Volunteer Centre and our Practice Development Unit (PDU).

We will hear from:

  • Christine Collinson, Clinical Psychologist working with Framework Housing Association - about the psychology behind loneliness and how it affects people;
  • A lived experience volunteer for Services for Empowerment and Advocacy (SEA) - about their personal experience coping with the pandemic and how volunteering with SEA has helped them feel less isolated;
  • Parisa Eliyon, Project Coordinator at SFiCE Foundation - a Leader of Volunteers who has had to address this issue in supporting both volunteers and service users during the crisis;
  • A volunteer befriender (to be confirmed) - who is working on the frontline of the pandemic, providing support to those who are feeling lonely.

Audience: This exciting, one-off workshop will be of interest to anyone working or volunteering within Nottingham’s voluntary and community sector who would like to explore the topic of loneliness in more detail and develop a greater awareness of how to support those affected, through volunteering.

This session will take place on Zoom, so please make sure you have access to this software before registering for a place.
