Four Steps To Becoming A Volunteer:
Getting Started....
Step 1
It's your choice
- Give it some thought (but don't start worrying about it)
- Use the quiz to check what sort of activity you're interested in
- Choose something you like doing, or you want to learn to do.
Step 2
Track down an organisation to talk to
- Find an organisation who needs your help.
- Get in touch with the volunteer organiser, who will tell you about what sort of things you could do.
- This can be done through the Volunteer Centre.
Step 3
Apply to become a volunteer
- Once you've found the organisation want - arrange to visit.
- Most organisations will ask you to fill in an application form.
- Most organisations will have an informal talk with you before they agree to let you join them as a helper.
Some have a more detailed interview.
- Volunteers need to be trained for some jobs, you may be asked to attend a training course.
- Don't be put off by the word "training" these courses are usually fun to do, you meet other volunteers
and learn a lot. Some courses may help you to get a qualification.
