Volunteers On Benefits
Many potential volunteers may be concerned about the effect that volunteering may have on their benefits,
this is hardly surprising given how much confusion there is around this subject.
It is your responsibility to inform the Benefits Agency and the Employment Service of any voluntary work.
However, your rights to Social Security benefits should not be affected if you do voluntary work. See leaflet
WK4 produced by the Benefits Agency, which gives guidance on how the various benefits could be affected
by different kinds of work.
As a general rule unpaid voluntary work should not stop you getting Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support,
Disability Living Allowance or Invalid Care Allowance, or affect the amount you get providing you still
meet the requirements set out in leaflet WK4.
