Overview and Scrutiny - of Council Services
Did you know that Overview and Scrutiny (O&S) activities are undertaken by local Councillors to ensure that
the services for the people of Nottingham are the best that can be provided?
O&S works to make sure that the right decisions are made for the right reasons and that the Council is doing
what it can to address issues of concern or interest to local people.
O&S involves reviewing Council services and policies, monitoring performance and budget management and examining
the activities of other organisations that impact on the lives of Nottingham residents, for example, health services.
When O&S Councillors look at an issue they hear from lots of interested parties, including residents and
service users. Representatives from the voluntary and community sector are also encouraged to give their
views. O&S then makes recommendations for improvements, which are considered by the decision makers.
So what is O&S looking at now?
Current reviews include:
- Youth Provision
- Dual-Diagnosis (services for people with both mental health and substance misuse problems)
- Economic Activity Rates
- Neighbourhood Policing
