Learn The Legend
Nick Parker from the Robin Hood Partnership is looking for Directors within the local area to sit on a
'steering group' for the 'Learn the Legend project'.
The purpose of the Robin Hood 'Learn the Legend' project is to provide a fun learning environment through
which children and adults from disadvantaged families can bond and engage creatively with each other.
Based at the 'Tales of Robin Hood' in Nottingham,
the voluntary Robin Hood Partnership will provide community organisations with unique 'days out' and 'study
weekends'. Groups of families will choose activities as varied as archery, theatre workshops, explorations
of Sherwood Forest, preparing a medieval banquet
and creating personal souvenirs of Robin Hood's Legend.
The learning outcomes will be communication, teamwork and solving mysteries together, using aspects of literacy
and number work in a practical, historical context. The focus will be on strengthening the parent-child
relationship, with the emphasis on taking responsibility and building mutual respect within each family.
Learn the Legend family days out and weekends will emphasise the theme of improving family relationships
and the encouragement of learning both among children and their parents.
Funding Required
As the Robin Hood Partnership is a not-for-profit organisation and it aims to benefit low-income, disadvantaged
groups, the cost to participants will be minimal. Essentially, the project will remove cost as a barrier
to participation among target families. To enable delivery to an estimated 15,000 beneficiaries over the
next 3 years, the Robin Hood Partnership is seeking £450,000 of support from a combination of the
Big Lottery Family Learning Programme, EMDA, Nottingham City Council, and other education authorities in
the Local Area Network.
