Tuesday 24 April 2018 1pm-4pm

NCVS, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new framework for data protection laws in Europe that comes into force on 25 May 2018 and will affect how organisations can collect, handle and store their data.

Even though it can sound scary, there are some practical things you can do to ensure your organisation is ready.

This hands-on interactive session is designed to give you essential information about how the changes may affect your organisation and give you an idea of the actions you will need to take to ensure compliance with the regulation and with Data Protection generally.

You will also go away with a number of resources to reference and guide you as you implement your action plan.

All at NCVS, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham

This course has been fully updated to include the new Charity Governance Code. Published in July 2017, the Code is designed to be a tool for continuous improvement for charities, setting out best practice and measures which charities should be striving towards. Much has changed, so this course is appropriate for both new trustees and those looking to update and refresh essential knowledge

Also included within the course:

  • the Charity Commission's The Essential Trustee;
  • dealing with conflicts of interest; and
  • the present approach to charity regulation by the Charity Commission.

The Charity Commission has emphasised that there is ‘the need for trustees to get a real grip on their duties and do the basics better.’ The Commission is very concerned that trustees do not understand their role. The updated guide for trustees (The Essential Trustee) gives a clear message of what is now expected from you. This session will help you to discharge your duties, be more aware of your liabilities and show you how to deal with conflicts of interest.

Promoting positive interactions at work: reducing the risk of work-related aggression

Tuesday 17 April 2018 9am–12 noon, followed by a networking lunch to 1pm

NCVS, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham

This is an Ingenuity workshop, led by Dr Claire Lawrence, Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham. Ingenuity is the University of Nottingham's local business network. The workshop is delivered in partnership with NCVS.

Some organisations routinely deal with aggressive or challenging behaviour from their clients. While actual physical assaults are rare, the day-to-day impact of angry, frustrated or aggressive clients can devastate organisations, wear down public-facing staff and lead to negative climates to interact in.

This free, half-day workshop for voluntary and community groups will cover the following topics:

  • What behaviours do we consider to be aggression?
  • Understanding Health and Safety requirements around aggression and violence at work;
  • Understanding social, psychological and biological reasons why different people become aggressive for different reasons;
  • Identifying potential vulnerabilities for staff;
  • Developing strategies to reduce the likelihood of aggression to staff, and create a positive environment.

This workshop is suitable for organisations interested in empowering staff to increase their positive interactions with clients, customers and colleagues.

Th event is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020 and is part of the Enabling Innovation Programme.
