There are over 3000 community and voluntary groups
in Nottingham working in a wide variety of areas with people from different communities
and cultures. Their grass roots knowledge means they are well-placed to help individual
communities raise and resolve their issues with the City Council, health service,
police force and other partners delivering their public services.
The Nottingham Community Network is a way for all these groups to work together
to make that difference: it is an alliance of voluntary, community and faith groups
set up to involve local people in decisions made by the city council and the other
major service providers.
About local decision making
The city's local strategic partnership (LSP) - known as One Nottingham (formerly
One City Partnership Nottingham) brings together public service providers, community
organisations and the business sector to improve services and neighbourhoods for
local people.
There are already many committees, partnerships and forums around Nottingham where
people from different organisations meet to work together. One Nottingham is a
chance to make some sense of this by getting everybody working towards the same
goals.
For the community it's an opportunity to get involved and influence decisions
at all levels - from city-wide strategies to local neighbourhood plans. The role
of the Community Network is to co-ordinate the involvement of community, voluntary
and faith groups in these decisions.
The Network aims to
- Inform people about what's going on
- Feed back about what's been achieved
- Involve people in making decisions about life in the city
- Link people to opportunities to have a say
- Make a real difference to life in Nottingham
- Support partners in reducing inequalities
What the Network means for you:
- Find out what's going on through plain-language information about what's happening in the city
- Have a say. Find out how your organisation and the people it works with can influence decisions.
- Provide the solution. Voluntary and community organisations might be the best people to meet needs in deprived areas. Public agencies are beginning to recognise that they aren't always the right ones to do the job.
Umbrella organisations and others already involved in the Network could be an
easy way for you to plug in to decision making. Groups already active in the Network

Need funding?
Although the Network isn't a direct funder, it influences decisions about where money is spent. We also run a funding advice service to help groups access funds through the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation.
