Conference - domestic abuse in faith communities - 30 March

Millo Services CIC will be hosting a half day conference on domestic abuse under the theme: Domestic abuse “Breaking down the Taboo” within faith communities. The conference is designed to consolidate and celebrate work the organisation has been doing over the past 12 months and also announce future planned work in this area.

The work has targeted faith communities because research shows that the incidence of domestic abuse in faith communities is not different from that in the general population, yet the response of faith communities to domestic abuse is often complicated by longstanding dilemmas around spirituality, traditions and ethical understandings. This often means a domestic abuse victim in a faith community is more likely to end far worse than someone in the general population.

The conference will focus on the subject of breaking down the taboo around domestic abuse within faith communities through a key note address by a specialist in safeguarding and domestic abuse services and a dynamic and interactive drama “Someone Prayed”.
