TIME TOGETHER

A NEW MENTORING SCHEME FOR REFUGEES IN NOTTINGHAM

Time Together

Time Together is a mentoring scheme for refugees in Nottingham. The scheme matches volunteer mentors with refugees to give them guidance, support and encouragement as they settle into their new communities and pursue their goals.

Since its launch in 2002 Time Together has matched hundreds of refugees with volunteer mentors in cities across the UK, whilst more than 2000 people have registered their interest in volunteering on the scheme.

Mentors and mentees come from a whole variety of backgrounds and meet together, normally once a week or once a fortnight. They are supported by their local co-ordinator and workshops and social events are also available.

Through a mentoring relationship people build new networks, friendships and confidence. They may meet over a drink, visit a gallery or explore the city. They can practice English, access training, volunteering and employment opportunities or seek advice from someone of the same professional or working background.

Time Together helps refugees find out more about Britain's diverse society as well as further empowering them to contribute their own culture, knowledge and skills. We aim to help refugees and the host community to integrate, create ambassadors for refugees in UK communities and promote more positive images of refugees in the media.
