NCVS Goes Green!
Improvements and changes we have made since 2002
Practical:
- Committing to 'green' procurement where we can at NCVS and NVAC
- Request 'green' credentials from caterers and use local suppliers as possible
- Sharing information with staff and volunteers about ethical issues and campaigns
- Identified pollution risks, marked drains correctly, checked compliance with legislation
- 'Green Workshop' to raise awareness of environmental concerns amongst staff
- Introduced 'Green Fairy' token initiative for monitors, lights and windows
- 'Dr Green' Q&A box for suggestions and "is it greener to...?" questions
- Training for staff in double-sided printing and printing 2 pages to one side
- Eco-mode printing as default setting on main office printer
- 'Feedback' has a Green Group page and a 'feedback flog-it' recycling item
- Cycle-to-work scheme with secure cycle store and showers for cyclists
- 'Green Fairy Tips', updates and advice on being 'green' at work
- Survey and practical work to improve air quality in the office
- 'Off-setting' information as an option to minimise carbon footprint
- Provided "think before you print" suggested tag line for CVS emails
- Requesting no food waste in desk bins, to lessen amount of bin liners to change
- Refreshments for NVAC events are delivered, saving lots of time and bags for NVAC
- Belly Dancing exercise classes through Small Steps Big Rewards
- Created the 'Lightwell Oasis' for meetings and eating, open to all tenants, staff and vols
- Table Tennis table in Lightwell for after work matches
- Outdoor games for lunchtime breaks and after work
- 'Fair Trade' annual stall open to the public in NVAC during 'Fair Trade' Week
