Emergency Assistance For Vulnerable Homeowners
The aim of this grant is to provide a citywide safety net for vulnerable home owners with properties assessed as being at high risk by the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System.
The Grant:-
- The grant will be a 100% of the approved costs of works up to a maximum of £10,000 in any one application (only one application per property).
- The grant will pay up to the maximum available for the removal of the Category 1 hazards as determined by an assessment under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System providing that renewal assistance is considered to be the most appropriate course of action.
- On completion of the works a grant condition will be imposed on the property for a period of 10 years requiring repayment of the grant to the Council on the sale of the property. The amount of grant to be repaid in the first five years is the full amount reducing to 50% during the remaining five years. The Service Director of Housing Services has the discretion to waive repayment of the grant in cases where the owner can prove exceptional circumstances, which will be defined by financial hardship, the threat of serious anti-social behaviour or an adverse impact on health.
